Interview with Seekae

How did Seekae come about?
Seekae started in 2006 after we all met at a wet t-shirt competition. George and John were admiring Alex’s cleavage on stage, but shortly after the show we realised we all shared a passion for electronica and conveniently lived round the corner from one another. After a few jams at eachother’s houses, we formed the band.
What setup do you guys use for most of the shows?
Usually George is on Melodica, MPC1000 and APC, Alex on Drums and Roland SP-404 and John is on Guitar, MicroKorg and MPD24. We switch it up quite alot though.
Who would you love to collaborate with?
We hope one day to form a super band with Eno, Mccartney, Jagger and the guy who wrote ‘Yakety Sax’.
One thing you want to do before you die?
Make sure our wills are in order and our families are financially secure.
Guilty music pleasures?
George has been known to slip on a bit of Garth Brooks before shows, but we normally just tell him to turn it off.
Interview with Conrad from Richard In Your Mind
Their third album, “SUN”, has juuuuust been released. It’s all psychedelic and wonderful and i am going to go right ahead and say it’s the best Australian album i’ve heard from 2011. you can buy the album through Rice is Nice!

Interview with Christian Wargo of Fleet Foxes

What did you want to be as a child and how did you initially become involved in making music?
Hmmm… I remember wanting to be an inventor at one point. I was pretty certain I was going to transform a helicopter into a time machine. Later, I thought it might be cool to work at the animation studio at Disney World… I was always into drawing. I was 8 years old when Back To The Future came out and after seeing it I really wanted a guitar. I ended up getting a bass instead and started my first band when I was 11. We were called The Ambassadors. We played at flea markets and youth groups, church, birthday parties and any place else that would let us play. I have been playing music ever since. The first band I ever toured the country in was called Danielson Family. I played drums and glockenspiel and sang at the same time. So much fun. I was 19 years old at that time and wasn’t allowed into the bars until it was time for me to go onstage. So I just hung outside and met lots of people. It was really exciting to me.
Are there any bands or artists that you’d like to collaborate with?
Yeah, lots… Sometimes I write a song and think, ‘this would be amazing if “so and so” sang this’. I think it would be really fun to write and produce an album with lots of guest vocalists or band collaborations. As far as someone specific… Ever since I met Alex and Victoria in Beach House I kinda’ felt a connection. We made a promise one morning at breakfast that we would find some time one day to write some stuff together. We’ll see…
What was the first gig you ever went to and the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Man, i’ve been trying to remember the very first, but just can’t place it… I was exposed to lots of music growing up… From a pretty young age. However, I remember the first proper band I went out and saw on purpose… It was at a coffee house in New Jersey called Down to Earth and the band I saw was called Perils of Pauline. It was a five piece band with a drummer, bass player, two guitarists and a keyboard player. Kinda’ Beatles, meets The Kinks, meets Roxy Music mixed with something altogether new. Very inspiring as young musician. It left such an impression on me that I’m gonna’ go ahead and say it was the best show I’ve ever been to. And since that band never recorded a record, it makes the memory of that show all the more special.
Who’s your favourite lyricist and why?
Um… man, it’s tough… I don’t know if I can pick one. (Of course) John Lennon for the way he weaves words and double meanings (in The Beatles) and his later stuff which was profound and beautiful and super simple. Cat Stevens for being so peculiar and interesting and for jamming words together that shouldn’t fit… But they totally do. Paul Simon for his images and stories and his delivery… Pink Floyd for being so cool and dark and mysterious. Especially the Syd Barrett years. Also really dig Syd Barrett’s ‘The Madcap Laughs’… Great lyrics!
And lastly, can we expect a visit to Australia anytime in the near future?
I know Fleet Foxes will be touring Australia at some point… I imagine it will be sometime closer to January or in the winter months. I’m really excited. I had a blast last time we went to that part of the world. So beautiful.
